PROJECT
Applications open for media literacy training in the Caribbean
30 March 2026
Applications are now open for the Public Media Alliance’s media and information literacy training workshops in Guyana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago, as part of our Strengthening Media Literacy Across Generations in the Caribbean project.

About the training:
The Public Media Alliance (PMA), in collaboration with country partners and with support from UNESCO Caribbean and the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC), is offering free, in-person media and information literacy (MIL) training workshops for individuals working across media organisations, universities, and libraries in the Caribbean.
When: 1-12 June 2026
Duration: The workshops will run for three days in each country
Where: Guyana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago
Over the course of the workshops, participants will develop a grounded understanding of MIL concepts and their relevance across sectors; build practical skills for designing age-specific MIL activities for both young people (aged 9-15) and older adults (aged 50 plus); and work alongside colleagues from media, universities, and libraries to develop a collaborative MIL initiative. The training is designed to be immediately applicable and will equip participants not just with knowledge, but with the tools and partnerships to act on it.
Following the workshops, a smaller group of selected participants (eight per country) will continue as MIL Champions, a special cohort that will go on to refine and pilot their initiatives through a virtual session, mentoring support, and a public MIL Action Day later in the year. There is no separate application to become a MIL Champion; selection will be based on the training application and participation during the workshops.
Eligibility & how to apply
Professionals from the media, university and library sectors in Guyana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago are invited to apply. There will be up to 20 participants per country.
For more information and to apply, please fill in the application form below.
Deadline: 20 APRIL 2026
About the project
This training is part of PMA’s Media Literacy Across Caribbean Generations project, which builds on PMA and UNESCO’s previous MIL work in the Caribbean, which trained journalists and teachers and visited schools across Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago. This new initiative expands that focus to include older generations — a group that emerged from post-project discussions as particularly in need of dedicated MIL attention — and broadens participation to include library and information professionals alongside media and education colleagues.
