IPPM Content Residency

The Indigenous Partnerships in Public Media (IPPM) collective is inviting Indigenous creators to apply for the brand-new Content Residency, a three-week funded opportunity to travel to another IPPM member to research and develop a content proposal.

About

The Indigenous Partnership in Public Media (IPPM) Content Residency is a new initiative which will support Indigenous talent development and cross-cultural storytelling.

The residency is a three week funded grant which will provide the opportunity for an Indigenous creator to travel to another member of the IPPM to research and develop a content proposal across screen, audio and digital.

The grant is designed to foster deep collaboration between IPPM members, while also giving Indigenous creators the opportunity to develop an idea.

The grant is funded by the IPPM, and will be disbursed by the Public Media Alliance, which is the Secretariat for the IPPM.

How the residency works

Eligible creators submit their applications following the guidelines below. The successful applicant will be selected by the IPPM Council, the body of Indigenous public media leaders which directs the IPPM.

Once chosen, the applicant will then be supported in connecting with their chosen host organisation. The applicant will be responsible for organising the logistics of their residency (travel and accommodation), but assistance will be available.

During the residency, the applicant will be able to undertake in-depth research, development and prototyping for their content proposal. The agenda for the residency will be led by the applicant, with support from the host, and their employer.

Project details

The Content Residency is open to all formats of content (e.g. podcast, text, visual) and genres (documentary, journalism, entertainment).

However, to be successful, your residency proposal must demonstrate:

  • International scope: The proposed area of study must have relevance to both the applicant’s home audience and the host region.
  • Pre-work & research requirements: Applicants must demonstrate a high level of preparation before submitting their proposal. To ensure a successful residency, you are required to:
    1. Research: Show thorough research into your specific topic of interest and its relevance to the host location.
    2. Identify Connections: Clearly outline who you intend to contact and meet within the host ecosystem
    3. Existing Outreach: Mention where you have already established contact with your preferred host broadcaster.
    4. Subject Matter Experts: Confirm that you have made initial contact with host location subject matter experts or the specific individuals you wish to work with. Just as you wouldn’t pitch a story without speaking to the talent, this ensures your three-week placement is actionable from day one.
