PRESS RELEASE
PMA to co-host journalist mental wellbeing conference MediaStrong
28 April 2025
The Public Media Alliance is pleased to announce it will co-host the third edition of the MediaStrong Symposium for mental health in the sphere of journalism.

The Public Media Alliance is proud to announce that it is partnering with MediaStrong to co-host a one-day symposium on journalism and trauma at City St George’s, University of London on 2 July 2025.
The cross-industry event, launched in 2023, will bring together media leaders, mental health practitioners, journalists, and academics to forge a path toward healthier, more sustainable newsroom cultures.
This year, conference organisers have partnered with PMA to bring the conversation to our membership and the wider public interest media community to share experiences, challenges and solutions from around the world.
It is our ambition that this conference and the resources and networking opportunities it provides, will help to shape the future of journalism – one where mental health, innovation and resilience go hand in hand.
What is MediaStrong?
MediaStrong is a UK-based Community Interest Company dedicated to addressing one of journalism’s most pressing yet often unspoken challenges: the mental health and wellbeing of those working in the industry.
In a profession defined by pressure, tight deadlines, high-stakes reporting, frequent exposure to trauma, and the relentless demands of 24/7 newsrooms, trauma-informed journalism is now recognised as an integral element of the craft.
As attitudes towards journalists become increasingly hostile, such training helps journalists navigate the emotional and ethical complexities of their work while fostering healthier and more sustainable newsroom cultures.
MediaStrong is at the forefront of this shift, creating a platform to normalise conversations about mental health and drive systemic change across the media industry. Through research, training, and collaboration with organisations like the Public Media Alliance, MediaStrong is finding tangible, meaningful solutions to help journalists and newsrooms thrive.
