PMA to host data journalism showcase on disaster preparedness in the Caribbean
WHEN: MONDAY 17 NOVEMBER 2025
The Public Media Alliance is pleased to announce it will host a showcase highlighting newly-developed data journalism projects that strengthen disaster preparedness across the Caribbean.

On Monday 17 November 2025, the Public Media Alliance (PMA) will host the official showcase of its Data Journalism in Action: Empowering Caribbean Disaster Preparedness project.
The regional event will spotlight how data journalism is being used as a tool to spotlight disaster preparedness and strengthen communication systems across the Caribbean. It follows a dynamic hackathon, virtual training workshops, and a multi-month mentoring programme where selected teams of journalists from Barbados, Grenada, and Trinidad & Tobago developed community-rooted storytelling projects around climate resilience and disaster risk reduction.

This initiative is delivered by PMA in collaboration with UNESCO Caribbean, the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC), and HEI-DA.
“This project isn’t just about journalism but also about using data and storytelling to empower communities, improve preparedness, and shape inclusive disaster responses,” said Desilon Daniels, PMA’s Project & Advocacy Coordinator. “We’re also looking forward to bringing together various stakeholders for the showcase to share insights, spark partnerships, and ensure that no community is left behind.”
The online event will feature final presentations by the three participating journalist teams, showcasing projects that support fisherfolk, farmers, and persons with disabilities. There will also be a panel discussion, titled “Resilient by Design: How Communication and Collaboration Shape Safer Communities”, that brings together media, disaster management, and international support.
