ACORAB joins the Public Media Alliance

PMA looks forward to collaborating with ACORAB as an affiliate member.

The Public Media Alliance (PMA) is delighted to welcome the Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (ACORAB), Nepal as an affiliate member of our global association.

ACORAB empowers Nepal’s community radio stations to produce and broadcast radio programmes on a breadth of critical issues, including good governance, development communication, human rights and other social, cultural and economic development issues.

PMA and ACORAB will work together to share best practices, policies and expertise, and advocate for a healthy operating environment for public interest media and quality journalism in Nepal and throughout the wider region.

PMA’s Affiliate Membership is reserved for organisations that play an important role in the wider public service and public interest media environment, allowing them to access a range of training, exchange and networking opportunities.

The alliance is grateful for ACORAB’s support and looks forward to working with them.

About ACORAB

The Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (ACORAB), Nepal is the umbrella organization of 300 community radio stations spread across the length and breadth of Nepal. It is registered under the national directive act 2018 in 2002 with the status of a ‘national professional organization’ in Nepal. ACORAB is affiliated with the Social Welfare Council as a non-profit-making organization. It has been working in the area of social empowerment through community broadcasting.

Community radios serve rural communities and work to enhance the rights of marginalized communities. They produce and broadcast content that is relevant and important to local audiences who are often overlooked by the other broadcasters. Community radio stations are owned and operated by local communities, as well as non-profit and non-political organizations that work towards enabling communities to tell their own stories thus mitigating the barriers of communication.
