The Public Media Alliance Global Grantee Scheme, supported by The Grace Wyndham Goldie (BBC) Trust, enables public media professionals across PMA’s global membership to engage in mutual learning experiences. This includes exchange visits, collaborative projects, participation in events, or overseas training for up to two weeks.

This year, the programme has expanded further, with PMA securing funding for eight individual grants, alongside two Trainer Grants designed to support hands-on training initiatives.

The scheme aims to promote knowledge exchange, enhance skills, and strengthen public media organisations while fostering international connections.

The 2025 PMA Global Grantees’ projects cover a vast range of themes, including multilingual digital journalism, digital transformation, AI in media management, and effective social media strategies. Other grantees focus on improving television studio management, ethical journalism, and storytelling that reflects diverse cultural perspectives, and enhancing public media in the digital age.

We extend our sincere gratitude to The Grace Wyndham Goldie (BBC) Trust for its continued support of last year’s Global Grants.

Project: Enhancing Multilingual Digital Journalism

Job title: Head of International Languages
Organisation: SWI swissinfo.ch
Travelling to: Radio Taiwan International (RTI)

Reaction statement:

“I am originally from Japan working in the international media landscape in Switzerland, but this Grant will broaden my perspective even further. It paves the way for greater collaboration, new connections, and a deeper appreciation of our diversity in today’s complex digital world. I am deeply grateful to PMA for this incredible opportunity!

In this environment, our professional journalistic approach becomes even more vital in multilingual media. By focusing on audience needs and cultural differences, we can create content that resonates with a global audience, fostering mutual understanding, and promoting inclusivity.

My grant project aims to innovate digital news in diverse languages and explore how public media can stay relevant in an era of rapid digital change. It also focuses on developing inclusive storytelling methods that reflect diverse perspectives and contexts.

I look forward to meeting my peers in Taiwan, exchanging ideas, and sharing insights. By working together, we can ensure that public media remains an essential and trusted source of information, across languages and cultures for the globally connected audiences we serve.”

Project: Social media strategy

Job title: Deputy Controller of News
Organisation: Bangladesh Betar
Travelling to: Radio Television Malaysia (RTM)

Reaction statement:

“Use of social media has become an integral part of our life. The media houses now need to have a good strategy for using social media platforms to reach out to their audiences. I am very much delighted to attain a Public Media Alliance Global Grant 2025 because it will allow me to visit Radio Televisyen Malaysia to observe and learn about their social media strategy. Bangladesh has a large young population who are more dependent on social media to get information rather than using traditional media like radio and television. Therefore, it is now in demand to disperse information on multiple social media platforms. But, to use social media platforms, there should be proper planning which will accommodate policy planning as well as technical support.

My objective is to use the grant to travel to Malaysian state media to learn strategies to disperse the same content across different social media platforms for better reach.

I again thank PMA Global Grant for giving me the opportunity to go ahead with my project.”

Project: Design and Implementation of digital transformation projects

Job title: Deputy Station Engineer
Organisation: Bangladesh Betar
Travelling to: Radio Television Malaysia (RTM)

Reaction statement:

“I am deeply honoured to receive the PMA Global Grant 2025, which has provided me with an invaluable opportunity to gain firsthand experience in Radio Television Malaysia’s (RTM) digital transformation journey. Without this grant, it would not have been possible for me to visit RTM and learn from their cutting-edge digital archiving and content management system.

This firsthand experience will be instrumental in formulating an actionable policy for Bangladesh Betar (BB) as it navigates its own digital transformation. By closely studying RTM’s IDEAL system and its integration into public broadcasting workflows, I will gain critical insights into system automation, digital archiving, and workflow optimisation—all essential components for BB’s transformation efforts.

My academic background, including a PhD in Media and Communication, a master’s in public policy, and a bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronic engineering, equips me with a unique interdisciplinary perspective. This grant will allow me to bridge my academic knowledge with practical expertise, ensuring that the insights gained from RTM can be effectively applied to BB’s transition towards a fully digitised and efficient public broadcasting system.

I sincerely thank PMA for this exceptional opportunity and look forward to contributing to BB’s digital transformation through this initiative.”

“Bula Vinaka and greetings from Fiji Islands.

I am so happy to be selected for this year’s Public Alliance Global Grant 2025, and this is an opportune time for me to upgrade my knowledge as a journalist, and to give back to the organisation.

This will provide exposure to help achieve the objective of the work I do, and to learn so much more.  I have been a Radio journalist for more than ten years. I focus mainly on writing and translating news into the iTaukei language to the Fijian listeners across the country from urban right down to rural, maritime and to outer islands.

This opportunity will also assist me with innovative aspects which I can learn and use to improve my content that I deliver to the people across Fiji.

I also hope to impart this to the new and upcoming journalists. Vinaka.”
