The Public Media Alliance will be in Sofia, Bulgaria in October for the annual Public Broadcasters International (PBI) conference, which this year, is being hosted by Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).

What is PBI?

The Public Broadcasters International conference is an annual conference, with a rotating host. Last year, it was hosted by CBC/Radio-Canada in Ottawa, Canada, with Czech TV hosting it in Prague the year before.

Since its creation in 1990 by NHK and TVO, the conference has brought together public media bosses and executives from around the world, to discuss the greatest issues, challenges, and opportunities facing public service media.

PBI 2025: “Making the Case for Public Service Broadcasters”

This year’s edition will be hosted by the public radio broadcaster of Bulgaria, BNR. The organisation celebrated its 90th anniversary in January 2025.

The theme for the conference will be “Making the Case for Public Service Broadcasters”, with every session exploring the arguments and strategies being used to demonstrate the value of public media worldwide. It will be hosted at the Hyatt Regency Sofia hotel.
