As the Polish government turns the clock back on the country’s press freedom safeguards, the heads of Swedish PSB’s have come together to warn against the new laws.

The heads of Swedish Radio, Swedish Television and Swedish Educational Broadcasting Company have written a joint op-ed in the newspaper Dagens Nyheter. The trio are scathing of the Polish government’s temporary law (signed 7th Jan 2016) which allows for the immediate removal of the directors of state radio and television, and lets the Polish treasury minister appoint successors as opposed to a separate committee or regulator that used to oversee the media.

The three heads then go on to seek assurance that their own government won’t allow such laws to be pursued in Sweden.

Listen below to Swedish Radio Director General, Cilla Benkö, discuss Poland’s new temporary laws.
