The CBA joins its members worldwide in remembering Nelson Mandela, who has passed away aged 95 at home in Johannesburg.

Our thoughts are with the people of South Africa and the staff of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC). All programmes and advertising have been cancelled on SABC to devote time for remembering the life of  Nelson Mandela. Follow the coverage on SABC.

It is a time to mourn his passing but also draw inspiration from his life. As public broadcasters around the world, we pay tribute to him as a global statesman who has done so much to fight racism and inequality. The free media of the world helped keep the anti-apartheid struggle alive and in the world’s consciousness.

The Commonwealth, which played an important role in dismantling apartheid, has paid tribute to Mandela: see “Nelson Mandela, a man of the Commonwealth who touched the world” a message from the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Kamalesh Sharma.
