13th November 2023
The Public Media Alliance warmly welcomes our new Board of public media professionals from around the world.
Public Media Alliance

At a time of significant upheaval for many public service media around the world, it has never been so important for our association to have a strong, experienced and representative Board in support of PMA’s core values.

We’re proud to once again congratulate Paul Thompson (RNZ) on his re-election as President, and Dr. Frank-Dieter Freiling (ZDF) on his re-election as Vice President of the Board.

We’re also very pleased to welcome new Board members Larissa M. Bieler, Director of SWI and Executive Board member of SRG SSR, and Cindy Shyu, President of PTS Taiwan.

Larissa M. Bieler
“Public service media are the cornerstones of democratic societies, providing different groups in society with an opportunity to receive and impart information – I’m happy and proud to be elected to the Public Media Alliance board, a strong voice around the issues and challenges facing public media worldwide.”
– Larissa M. Bieler, Director of SWI and Executive Board Member of SRG SSR, and new Board Member of PMA

“It’s my great honour to be elected as the board member of PMA. I am looking forward to working with all my esteemed colleagues and to contributing to the operation of PSM around the world. I believe when we stand together, we can achieve more.”
– Cindy Shyu, President of PTS Taiwan, and new Board Member of PMA

Paul Thompson, RNZ
“It is great to see a group of outstanding public media leaders appointed to the PMA Board.
“They bring a great deal of expertise and represent nearly every corner of the globe. Their unique perspectives will be invaluable as we continue to ensure that PMA is the trusted advocate for public media globally and at the forefront of the latest trends and developments.
“Independent public media are increasingly vital to our democracies as nations wrestle with challenges around trust, polarisation, audience shifts and disruptive technologies.
“I am looking forward to working with the Board and the PMA Secretariat on ensuring our organisation strengthens its role as a relevant and effective champion for public media.”
– Paul Thompson, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of RNZ, and President of the PMA Board

This year’s election is the first since the loss of PMA Vice President Odette Campbell, who sadly passed away in May 2023. Her vision in support of public interest media will continue to inspire the work of PMA long into the future.

The PMA membership elects a new Board every two years.
