In December 2016, Taiwan’s Public Television Service added two high-profile members to its 18-person Board of Directors.

The Public Media Alliance warmly welcomes former Director of the Council for Cultural Affairs, Yu-Chiou Tchen, as Chairperson of PTS and new President, Wen-Chieh Tsao, a renowned documentary filmmaker.

Yu-Chiou Tchen’s diverse background includes serving as Minister of the Council for Cultural Affairs, Executive Yuan; National Policy Advisor to the Office of the President of the R.O.C.; Ambassador-at-large; Secretary General of the National Cultural Association; Chairperson of the National Chiang Kai-Shek Cultural Center and Board Member of the National Culture and Arts Foundation.

As an educator, she has held the positions of Chair of the Department of Music, Dean of the Graduate School of Music and Dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) and President of Alliance Francaise de Taiwan. She is also the Honorary Chairwoman of Egret Culture and Education Foundation as well as adjunct professor at both NTNU and National Chengchi University and consultant to the Taichung and Tainan city governments.

Wen-Chieh Tsao has devoted her career to documentary filmmaking for more than 2 decades. She acquired her BA from the Chinese Cultural University in 1986 and then earned her Master of Science in Psychology from National Fu Jen Catholic University in 2012. She was also a director and scriptwriter for the Public Television Preparatory Committee before PTS’s formal launch in 1998.

As an experienced producer and director, Tsao has produced various documentaries such as “A Random Life” (1998, First Prize at Cultural of Locality Festival and invited to Margaret Mead Festival), “Please Come Home My Boy”(1998, Merit Prize in TIDF), “Heavenly Peace in Small Town” (2001, Opening Film in Taiwan International Ethnographic Film Festival), “Dreaming of Home〜Marginal Tribe of the City” (2003, Taiwan International Ethnographic Film Festival), “Song Way Back When”(2015, Chiayi City International Art Documentary Film Festival) ,“The Eyes of Nan Guang Deng” (2015, Taiwan International Ethnographic Film Festival, 2016 New Narratives Film Festival) and “Art Duet—Voice of Two Generations (Visual Arts)” (2016, Chiayi City International Art Documentary Film Festival).
