The Australian government’s Department of Communication and the Arts are seeking expressions of interest for the role of Chairperson at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).
The future Chairperson will be head of ABC’s Board, which is responsible for the broadcaster’s operations. This includes maintaining ABC’s independence and integrity as well as ensuring it performs in accordance with the wellbeing of the Australian public.
Other roles of the Board include ensuring the accuracy and impartiality of news gathering and that the broadcaster complies with legislative and legal requirements.
According to the ABC, the Chairperson will make up one of seven Directors appointed to the Board, all of which must have broadcasting, communications or management experience or expertise in “financial or technical matters”. Alternatively those appointed should have cultural or other interests “relevant to the provision of broadcasting services”.
The Managing Director of ABC is appointed by the Board.
