What it means to be a PMA member

Public Media Alliance (PMA) membership is divided between Core Members and Affiliate Members.

Our Core Members are the organisations that communicate daily and free of charge through TV, radio and online with the 2.5 billion citizens living in the countries that our members serve. It is the only global membership organisation to focus specifically on public service broadcasting and public service media, with all members – regardless of their nation’s size or location – having full and equal membership.

Our Affiliate Members are public broadcast-related organisations such as regulators, broadcast technology companies and media non-profits.

Members of the Public Media Alliance are part of a unique international ‘family’ of media organisations that share many of the same values and priorities. The trusted and credible news and information provided by public media is vital to our lives and wellbeing but often undervalued by politicians and the public.

Who can apply

Core Members

Only public service media companies can apply to be a core member of PMA.

Affiliate Members

Affiliate membership is given to organisations that have a role to play in the wider public service media environment, such as independent regulators, civil society organisations, and foundations.

Media institutes, award bodies, academic institutions, and charities can also apply to be Affiliate members.

We do not accept individuals as members of PMA.

Membership fees

Our core funding comes from membership subscriptions. This enables us to maintain our independent voice for public media worldwide.
