Public media must be responsive. This week, CBC/Radio-Canada responded to public needs and concerns with two initiatives: the HireBIPOC project and the Local News Matters directory.

Engaging with audiences is essential if public media are to build trust and ensure public accountability. Yet, with COVID-19 massively disrupting the way we work and interact, how have public media adapted to best engage with their audiences during the pandemic?

Cette décision s’inscrit dans le cadre du débat actuel croissant sur la distinction entre médias d’État et médias publics, devenu d’une importance capitale pour les citoyens des pays démocratiques partout dans le monde.

In early June, Facebook announced that it had begun labelling content originating from state-controlled media organisations. This is the most recent manifestation of an ongoing discussion about the distinction between state and public media organisations that is vitally important for citizens of democracies worldwide.

The year 2020 will be forever etched in our minds. No matter where we live, we share common experiences of fear, grief and the suffering that comes with uncertainty.
