“At the rate journalists are being killed in Gaza by the Israeli army, there will soon be no one left to keep you informed”

1 September 2025
Today the Public Media Alliance is joining hundreds of media outlets in calling for the protection of Palestinian journalists in Gaza, the emergency evacuation of reporters seeking to leave the Strip, an end to impunity for Israeli crimes against Gaza’s reporters and that foreign press be granted independent access to the territory.

The campaign, led by Reporters without Borders (RSF) and campaigning platforms AVAAZ comes as the death toll of journalists and media workers in Gaza reaches 220 in just 23 months. It is in line with calls made by over 200 media leaders and organisations in June calling for the Strip to be opened to foreign journalists and the urgent protection of Palestinian reporters.

In August, 29 member states of the Media Freedom Coalition called on Israel to grant independent media access to Gaza and denounced the violence against journalists covering the conflict.

Over 250 media outlets are now involved in this callout, which includes entire or partial blackouts of their homepages, front pages, and/or audiovisual messages.

The abhorrent persecution and killing of journalists and media workers must stop.
