The Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) is pleased to announce the rollout of its OTT service, ‘SBC+’.
Launched with the tagline ‘Your Screen, Your Choice’, the new service will allow viewers to stream SBC programmes on their smart devices, such as phones, tablets and smart TVs.

The service also has a catch-up feature, allowing users to watch programmes up to 5 days after they have been broadcast.

SBC+ is currently being offered as a free-to-view service to the Seychelles territory only. However, SBC is planning to launch a paid subscription service in the coming months for its VoD (Video-on-Demand) Catalogue and which will be available to the Seychelles diaspora and any global subscriber.

CEO Bérard Duprès said: “The launch of SBC+ is a historic milestone in the SBC’s transformative journey. Being online and digital is no longer an option for national broadcasters, if they want to retain and reach new audiences who now have a huge and diverse selection of online content at their fingertips. SBC+ will ensure that our varied and unique programmes are also accessible to our audiences, both here and overseas, when and where they want.”

SBC has worked closely with UniqCast, a company based in Croatia, to implement its OTT service. “We at UniqCast are thrilled to partner with the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation on this exciting new venture,” said Darko Robič, CEO of UniqCast. “SBC+ is a prime example of how national broadcasters can leverage OTT technology to deliver their content to a wider audience, both locally and internationally. Our platform is designed to provide a smooth and reliable streaming experience allowing SBC viewers to enjoy their favourite programs anytime, anywhere. We’re confident that SBC+ will be a huge success, and we look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with SBC.”

“This kind of collaboration is a very good example where local technology companies can come together to move the country further in the digital era.” – Hervé Cherry, Head of Engineering and Technology at SBC

The new service will also leverage local edge servers to optimise the delivery of content closer to the subscribers and reduce data costs. The edges servers have been installed at the premises of all the 3 Internet Service Providers in the Seychelles, namely Airtel, Intelvision and Cable and Wireless.

SBC’s Head of Engineering and Technology, Hervé Cherry who has been leading the project’s implementation on the SBC’s side said: “We are very appreciative of the collaboration from the Internet Service Providers, who have ensured that their respective clients receive the SBC+ services via their existing broadband or mobile packages. SBC would not have been able to afford to provide a free SBC+ service locally otherwise. This kind of collaboration is a very good example where local technology companies can come together to move the country further in the digital era.”
