Essential safety resources for journalists and media workers
The threats, challenges and pressures facing journalists and media workers are on the rise, and many of these will directly affect their mental and physical safety.
Fundamentally, journalists should not be restricted or threatened in doing their job: holding power to account and informing the public.
Yet around the world journalists are facing mounting challenges. Whether it is in the workplace, online or in the field, covering crises or reporting on elections, media organisations must take steps to ensure that their journalists and media workers are both equipped to deal with potential challenges to their safety, and that steps have been taken to address known issues that could pose harm to their staff.
Journalists and media workers must also have access to resources and training to allow them to feel reassured in how best to deal with threats to their safety.
