A mental health symposium for journalists
What is MediaStrong?
The MediaStrong symposium is back.
Our third event brings together journalists and news professionals, renowned mental health specialists, expert academics, and campaigners for the protection of journalists. This year’s event will build on the success of MediaStrong 2024 to once again provide a safe space for journalists to gather and learn about the latest research as well as how to protect their mental health – both in the field and in the newsroom.
Speakers and contributors at MediaStrong 2025 will paint a picture of today’s newsroom and the challenges facing journalists and media workers. But it will also look to solutions and best practices for news organisations to better support their staff.
Presentations and insights from journalists, newsroom leaders, mental health specialists and academics will explore how a greater awareness of the impact of trauma enables us to tell better informed and more accurate stories; to be sensitive to the people we report on; and to establish good mental health practices that allow journalists, media workers and the industry as a whole to thrive.
The inaugural MediaStrong symposium was organised by veteran journalist, author and Head of Ulster University’s Undergraduate Journalism programme, Leona O’Neill. After a highly successful symposium in 2023 and 2024, this year’s event will will take place in London on 2 July at City St George’s, University of London from 9am-6pm and will be broadcast live into selected newsrooms.
The agenda will be announced very soon.
Speakers
Our speakers will come from across the news media, academic, and healthcare sector, each with their own stories to tell and ideas for how best to support journalists and media workers.
More speakers will be announced very soon.
