GBC Celebrates Record Reach and Community Approval in Latest Survey Findings
GBC has announced record-breaking results from its latest audience survey, showing significant engagement, increased satisfaction, and strong community alignment across both GBC TV and Radio Gibraltar.
Viewers and listeners have praised the commitment to covering local issues that matter to the people of Gibraltar, highlighting the professionalism of presenters and the station’s genuine community spirit.
540 respondents took part, evenly split between male and female, and across face to face interviews and online.
“GBC remains dedicated to providing programming that resonates with our viewers and listeners, enhancing community connection.” – James Neish, CEO of GBC
Highlights from the 2024 Audience Survey include:
98% of respondents consume GBC News across TV, Radio and Online.
Seven out of ten access GBC News five – seven days a week across TV, Radio and Online.
Audiences express growing satisfaction with both GBC TV and Radio Gibraltar:
- 83% Very Satisfied or Satisfied with GBC News
- 79% Very Satisfied or Satisfied with Radio Gibraltar
- 74% Very Satisfied or Satisfied with GBC TV
GBC’s coverage of the McGrail Inquiry is commended by viewers and listeners as 93% rate it Excellent or Good. Three of every Four followed proceedings and news reports on GBC TV and Radio Gibraltar with 89% of those tuning in daily or most days.
With online services continuing to attract more attention, more than 50% watch or listen to GBC programmes online at gbc.gi
The picture and audio quality of TV and Radio are rated extremely highly.
The survey finds solid, and growing, audiences for TV and Radio across weekdays but audiences fall on weekends for both services. For example, only 14% say they watch the Saturday Movie.
The findings also reveal that GBC’s dedication to serving Gibraltar’s community and values is well recognised: only 3% of respondents felt that our TV and Radio content does not accurately reflect local culture.
There was mixed feedback on the use of Llanito on air. While some feel broadcasts should be exclusively in English there were more people who supported the use of Llanito. Some called for a balanced approach. As one respondent put it “GBC has become more of what the Gibraltarian is, and not afraid to use the Llanito language here and there. It is welcoming and satisfying”.

GBC welcomes survey findings

CEO James Neish says, “GBC remains dedicated to providing programming that resonates with our viewers and listeners, enhancing community connection. Satisfaction rates from audiences for TV, Radio and News grew significantly last year and we are delighted to see results climb for a second year running. This is testament to the hard work of everyone at Broadcasting House”.
In terms of programming preferences, News is the clear frontrunner, capturing the interest of a wide audience across the Rock, followed by Current Affairs. This underscores GBC’s role in keeping Gibraltar informed on critical issues and breaking developments locally.
Gibraltar Today (on air weekdays 1-2pm on Radio Gibraltar and GBC TV), in particular, is noted for its engaging format and ability to reflect pressing topics and celebrate the local vibrant life.
GBC believes the latest survey results reflect our ongoing efforts to deliver trusted, community-centered content that resonates deeply with our viewers and listeners.
We thank the people of Gibraltar for their continued support and look forward to serving them with even greater dedication in the future.
