The Public Media Alliance (PMA) is a global association of public service media organisations, regulators, and support bodies, with a mission to support and promote the role of public service media. PMA’s membership is split between Members, and Affiliate Members – organisations that are part of the wider public media ecosystem such as independent regulators, academic institutions and fellow civil society organisations.

“Joining the Public Media Alliance enhances our ability to advocate not only for Māori working in screen and media, but for Indigenous voices across the globe. At this pivotal time, Indigenous media and storytellers are taking centre stage to reshape narratives, reclaim language and culture, and challenge the colonial frameworks within mainstream media systems. We stand in solidarity with others upholding the principles of public interest journalism, media independence and social justice, and we look forward to learning from others, sharing our knowledge, and championing stories that connect us all.”
– Kay Ellmers, Tumu Whakarae Executive Director of Ngā Aho Whakaari

“I am thrilled to welcome Ngā Aho Whakaari to our alliance. There is a real synergy between Ngā Aho Whakaari’s purpose to advocate for Māori and the use of te reo Māori on screen, and the role of public service media, in ensuring it reflects the public they serve. Ngā Aho Whakaari – through its work in Aotearoa New Zealand – has much to offer our global membership, and I look forward to learning from them and exploring the collaborations that their Affiliate Membership might can offer.”
– Kristian Porter, CEO of PMA
