PMA welcomes new Board member from the BBC
8th January 2025
Director of Transformation in BBC News and Current Affairs, Phil Harrold, becomes PMA’s 11th board member.
The Public Media Alliance warmly welcomes Phil Harrold as the newest board member.
Phil is the Director of Transformation in BBC News and Current Affairs, with responsibility for enabling and supporting business transformation and change across the division. He is also a Trustee of the BBC Media Action, the Corporation’s international development charity.
Phil began working for the BBC in 2005 for the then-governing body of the Corporation, the Board of Governors. He subsequently worked for the BBC Trust, where he was Head of Governance. He joined the BBC Executive as Company Secretary in 2014 with responsibility for corporate governance across the BBC Group, and served for nearly eight years as the Chief of Staff to the BBC’s Director-General and Chairman.
Phil will become the eleventh member of the PMA Board, which is currently headed by Radio New Zealand’s CEO and Editor-in-Chief, Paul Thompson. Phil’s position was formerly held by Liliane Landor, the former Senior News Controller of the BBC’s World Service Group.
“I am very pleased to welcome Phil to the PMA Board, who brings with him a wealth of experience from his prominent roles at one of the world’s foremost public media organisations. His appointment complements the diverse skillset of our Board, and I thoroughly look forward to working with him in our efforts to support and advocate for public service media amid the challenges they face worldwide.” – Kristian Porter, CEO Public Media Alliance
