Internal and external debts could have led to suspended services for Bosnian PSB BHRT but last minute deal with parliament keeps it on-air.

Following an agreement with the European Broadcast Union (EBU) last week in which BHRT received an extension to a payment deadline for membership and broadcast rights to UEFA Euro 2016, the Bosnian and Herzegovinian House of Representatives have this week agreed a legislative proposal to secure the immediate survival of the broadcaster.

The new proposal will see public media funded from the current license fee until the available public funds are made available from the country’s treasury, which are accumulated through tax according to EuroVisionary.

However, it is not clear whether these steps will secure the longterm survival of the broadcaster, which still owes over €5million to the EBU – a postponed payment that must be paid by 10 July 2016.
